May’s Jobs Report and how it affects Small Businesses and the local worker.

May’s jobs report revealed some challenges for small town workers and small businesses alike.

There has been 38,000 newly created jobs which was reported this week. This only reflects a dismal and continued troubling economy. Of those jobs created, somewhere close to 10,000 were government jobs and the downside is there being only 25,000 jobs created in the private sector. This report brings with it totals not seen at its lowest level in nearly 6 years.

Although some would assume this to be a bright spot with our unemployment rate dropping below 5% to a new 4.7%.  This is hardly a bright spot as the drop in number is actually due to more people leaving the workforce: 458,000 alone in May. Combine those numbers and America’s participation rate in the labor force is around 62%, a new low.

Currently America has a record number of workers no longer seeking employment in the labor force in the amount of almost 95,000,000, more exact, that number is 94,708,000.

Small business owners are finding it more challenging to hire and expand business and workers are finding it more difficult to locate work in their communities.
